Maurice Bishop Villainelle

Played with a back beat; written for Jessica Garraway as an Afro-Carribean, socialist song

D
Where will be our restitution
A
For the centuries downtrodden?
G… D A
It is in the revolution
Bm
Like Job suffered his persecution
G We had been machines for cotton
D... Bm A
Where will be our restitution?
D
Maurice wrote his constitution
A
To sweep away the broke and rotten
G D A
It is in the revolution

There can be no substitution
struggle is how freedom’s gotten
Where will be our restitution?

Washington sent retribution
Before the seeds we’ve sown could broaden
It is in the revolution

Struck down by an execution
Maurice you are not forgotten
Where will be our restitution
It is in the revolution
